It’s over. That’s all she wrote. There is absolutely no way that the alt-right will ever recover from this savage take-down.
We managed to weather the storm of John Oliver totally destroying us, but now, we are officially stumped. It was a good run, fam, but it’s time to pack it in.
Comedians, it’s no longer edgy or daring to satirize the Right. The pioneers of rebellious comedy spoke openly about taboo topics. Audiences had the basic understanding that uncomfortable truths and crossing lines are funny. George Carlin made a career out of the counterculture (and it’s worth noting that despite his left-leaning tendencies, he attacked both sides with equal fervor), as did many others such as Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor, and Bill Hicks. “Virtue-signaling” wasn’t a defined concept back then, but if it had been, comedians were doing the opposite of it.
Now, the culture has shifted.
While the Right has been dedicated to losing with nobility for the past 25 years, the left has been dominating the psychological game and maintain the prevailing viewpoints and narratives in modern media. They have successfully convinced those who came of age during that time that the Right is teeming with racist, sexist, queer-hating bigots. I’ve studied psychological persuasion over the past year thanks to Based Dilbert Merchant, Scott Adams (PBUH), and I gotta hand it to the Left: their ability to mentally reprogram the public at large is impressive.
Recently, Amy Schumer claimed her “liberal politics may hurt [her] career, but” she doesn’t care. In what cartoon universe will espousing a liberal point-of-view get you blacklisted in 2016 Hollywood? I know there was a stand-up comedy boom in the 1980s, but I don’t know why modern comedians (typically those based in California) still believe they are living in the era of religious right Moral Majority-esque media watchdogs. Being a Republican in Hollywood is so unfashionable and potentially damaging that there are clandestine hangouts for right-leaning actors (well, there used to be, anyway).
These days the West Coast is where subversive comedy goes to die.
Bootlicking nerds believe they’re speaking truth to power when they couldn’t be more in step with the party line. Being an outspoken liberal is dangerous? Today we live in an era where supporting the Republican candidate can get you attacked or your property vandalized.
Besides the hamfistedness of this parody, that’s what bugs me most about liberal comedians: their complete lack of awareness.
They’re the apple-polishers in the guise of the class clowns flinging spitballs at the stodgy assistant principal. The establishment thinks they’re the counterculture, and when they attempt to skewer the counterculture, they’re not a dangerous hippie like Carlin…they’re more like Bob Hope wearing a long haired wig on Laugh-In. This doesn’t offend me as a right-leaning individual; it offends me as a fan of comedy.
Comedians have failed to realize that the Right is no longer the establishment.
They produce videos like this one, believing they are sticking it to THA MAN. Instead, they have become everything they hated. Sad!
Want to hear some comics who aren’t liberal cunts?
